After a goalless first half in which both sides had seen "goals" disallowed, FC United opened the scoring proper on 59 minutes, when Cameron Horner latched on to a Will Shawcross header to shoot low past Iain McLeod in the Gateshead goal.

And on 79 minutes, Horner added his second, this time from a Jack Ward pass on the right hand side, to put FC United Youth 2-0 up.

Gateshead Youth came close to pulling a goal back in the dying minutes, but FC United Youth held fast to progress to the last eight.

FC United Youth’s next FCYA game is an away league fixture against AFC Fylde Youth. (Wednesday 27th January 2016 - K.O. 2.00 p.m.).
