Men United Against Suicide Football Club

FC United of Manchester have recently partnered up with an amazing new community project - Men United Against Suicide Football Club.

Men United Against Suicide is a weekly get together, centred around football games, yet providing a space for men to talk openly, ask for help or signpost individuals to the right places to get the help they need. The programme is designed to provide the community with a safe and inclusive environment to get away from the stresses of everyday life.

Men account for 80% of deaths by suicide in the UK, nearly 12 men lose their lives to suicide every day and suicide is a leading cause of death for men under the age of 50. It is for all these reasons that creating a place where men can get some exercise, talk, laugh, have fun at the same time is so important. Away from the pitch Men United hold monthly talking therapy sessions which occasionally include guest speakers.

FC CEO Natalie Atkinson said, “I am delighted that we are partnering with MEN United, it’s humbling to hear the journey that Lou and the team have been on. For FC United to support and help boys and men with their mental wellbeing through the power of football is so important; football can be an outlet for those involved and provide so much more than playing. Lou is so passionate and caring about this project and we are so proud to be a part of the journey they are on”

Sessions take place on our 3G pitch every Friday evening 7 – 8pm and are open to all men and boys, with a focus on inclusivity of all ages, races, sexualities and backgrounds.
