Before and after Saturday’s home game versus Northwich Victoria, one of our supporters will be embarking on a 25 mile walk in aid of the Development Fund.
Janet Machen will be tracing the history of Manchester United and FC United by walking from Newton Heath, to Old Trafford, Bury and onwards to the proposed site of our new ground. Janet has been assured that she will know the site by Saturday. Let’s hope so, otherwise we can expect to see one tired FC United fan wandering the streets of North Manchester waiting for that all important phone call.
Janet’s walk will be in three stages:
1) Newton Heath to Old Trafford, approx 5 miles
2) Old Trafford to Gigg Lane, approx 10 miles
3) Gigg Lane to ?, approx 10 miles
The walk will start at 7am, and Janet is hoping to arrive at Gigg Lane by 2pm in time for the match. The final leg of the walk will be after the match.
If you’re thinking of joining Janet on any part of the walk, or just want some more details, email
janet_machen@yahoo.com
In particular, Janet is hoping as many of her fellow supporters can join in with the final section after the match. This is the section of the walk that will take us to the proposed new site for our ground, which everyone is excited to see. So if you think you can cope with a walk of approximately 10 miles after all that singing and bar scarf twirling, put your best foot forward and join the walking party after the final whistle. Remember, it’s all for the Development Fund and Janet will no doubt be tired by this point so could do with some encouragement!
Anyone who wants to join Janet on the final leg of her journey should meet at Reception 2 at Gigg Lane at 5.20pm. The estimated time of arrival at the soon to be announced site is 8.30pm.
Please help FC United get to our new home. There will be sponsor forms at the General Meeting on Thursday and the Quiz Night on Friday. Or you can sponsor Janet and the other walkers by going online to
