Call for Volunteers
At the risk of being branded insensitive we want to quote a famous American, John F Kennedy; "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"??. We want to apply that quote to our club, the club we have all worked hard to develop and move forward as a progressive fan owned organisation. We would like to ask "And so, my fellow FC United colleagues ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club"??
While premier league clubs can afford to pay staff to undertake match day duties it is totally different at this level of the football world and is a bigger problem for FC United because of our crowd numbers and the added cost of renting Gigg Lane. We need to get more people involved as volunteer match day officials in order to cut the club’s operating costs and to enable a fairer distribution of work between existing volunteers on match days.
It stands to reason that the more people who volunteer the more we will be able to rotate duties and this will enable the volunteers to see more of the games than happens at present. For example if we have a team of say 100 trained turnstile operators you will only have to work 2 games a season. We know this sounds a lot but you wouldn’t be committed for the whole season. Or why not get a group of your mates together and have a turnstile day instead of going on the beer. Think how much rest your liver would get while helping your club.
The more money we can save on match day costs the more can be spent on development of the club. We need people like you to volunteer your services for however many games you can commit to and for whatever role you feel you could do for your club. What’s more, we need them now as we embark on another season in untested waters.
People who have done this work so far say how much enjoyment they get from it and how it has helped them make new friends and helped out the club they support. Your involvement as a volunteer helps the club enormously in both costs, attracting grants, sponsorship partners and a dozen other ways. We would like you to experience the same warmth and sense of belonging so why don’t you pick up that phone and give the club a bell and let’s see if you can help your club.
