Reserves maintain record
Tony Cullen’s Reserve Team maintained its unbeaten record with another solid performance, this time against a strong Mossley XI at the Lilywhites’ picturesque Seel Park ground on Sunday afternoon.

After an evenly-matched start to the game in the warm sunshine, the Reds’ Elesio Tavares opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute with a crisply taken shot, low to the keeper’s left, after being put through on goal courtesy of a pin-point pass by team-mate Vaste.

Eight minutes later, and Mossley drew level, Jordan Goodeve rounding ’keeper Dale Newbrooke and knocking the ball home.

Two minutes after that, and the Reserves were back in front when Mossley’s Martin Allison diverted a wicked right-wing cross from Reds’ Warren Collier past his own ‘keeper.

United went in 2-1 to the good at the interval. As in previous games, the Reds’ management team took the opportunity of making multiple changes to the FC United of Manchester Reserves line-up at half-time, but just like last week at Monton, it took some time for the Reds to settle down, and it was not really a surprise when Mossley drew level again. Paul Garvey bundling the ball home after great play on the right wing by Anthony Bingham.

After that, with no further scoring opportunities of note, the game fizzled out somewhat, both sides settling for the draw; but in the final analysis it would probably be Tony Cullen who would be the more pleased with the way his team performed, this against opposition competing some two levels higher than FC United in the non-league pyramid.

FC United man of the match: Liam Coyne - made his presence felt throughout the game.
