Match Report
FC United were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by relegated Burscough at Gigg Lane on Wednesday night but the point means the Reds have all but sealed sixth place, which could be vital.

Dean Stott scored from the penalty spot a minute before the break on his return from a three game suspension but Phillip Clarke found an equaliser for the visitors midway through the second half to secure the draw.

United now go three points ahead of Marine with a superior goal difference of 19 goals, meaning the Merseyside outfit would need a footballing miracle to overtake the Reds.

With Hednesford Town also drawing at home, to North Ferriby, it means United are still three points behind the Pitmen heading into the last day of the season this Saturday and could therefore still grab fifth spot..

Only a victory against second placed Northwich Victoria and defeat for Hednesford at home to Worksop will guarantee the Reds a place in the play-offs. Any other results would leave United nervously waiting on the FA’s verdict on Northwich’s appeal against their regrettable expulsion from the Evo-Stik league.

The final decision could be announced at least seven days after the final game of the season, depending on if and when an appeal is lodged and how long the FA takes to consider it.
