Match Report
The young reds travelled to Chester, to play at the Exacta Stadium and its wide and relatively flat pitch in a bid to keep the dreams of a successful defence of the NWYA title alive. Sadly they were unable to do so; a 2-1 defeat leaves Marine needing just three points from as many games to push the reds back into second place.

The reds dominated possession in the opening half hour but despite half chances didn’t look likely to score, indeed Chester’s Connor Kendrick was the one player who could consider himself unlucky on that front, after beating Josh Smethurst and James Brooks his shot was blocked by Andrew Farrimond.

Chester did take the lead on 35 minutes when we saw the worst and best of Farrimond in quick succession. His poorly taken goal kick gave Chester a clear chance to score but he redeemed himself turning the shot away for a corner. Sadly that corner was headed in unopposed at the far post by Dave Griffiths.

With choice words of encouragement from manager Dave Brown at half time, there seemed to be an instant response, substitute Luke Walker beating the full back and crossing for Theo Kidd to score on 48 minutes. It was unfortunately the one and only time they made any effective use of the wide areas of the pitch.

Chester scored their winner after 85 minutes in a break down field after breaking up an FC attack. Reece Norton got the better of Alex Stones as they chased back after the ball and he was left with an easy shot to beat Farrimond. Although the reds went in search of an equaliser it was Chester who looked more likely to add to their lead and on the day deserved their victory.

FC United of Manchester: Andrew Farrimond, Alex Stones, Josh Smethurst, Richard Smith, Andy Lee (Luke Walker 46 mins), James Brooks, Jonathan Poizer, Connor Naughton (Matt Musialowski 55 mins), Theo Kidd, Matthew Boland, Matthew Hassall (Gregg Heywood 75 mins). Sub not used: Jonathan Beisty.

Goal: Theo Kidd.
