Thursday 1st June marks the start of this year’s Volunteers’ Week – an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution that volunteers make to communities and organisations across the UK. And closer to home it’s a chance to recognise the huge role that volunteers play at FC United, not only on match days but in the general day to day running of our football club
Each day we are focusing on an FC United volunteer, to highlight what they do and what volunteering at our club means to them. Today we are profiling Des Gallagher who is an office admin volunteer.
“My name is Des Gallagher, I am a founder member of the club and have volunteered across the club since the early days. I am currently an office admin volunteer which gives me an insight into how the club runs off the field on non-match days. I volunteer firstly because I need to be active after some personal trauma this year. But secondly and more importantly, I volunteer because this club is my club, and it has been a big part of my life for the last 18 years.
It has given me some great memories and I feel I need to repay that. To own your own club and to be a volunteer for it, is fully rewarding and I'd recommend volunteering to everyone.”
