Match Report
There is an old saying “After the Lord Mayor’s Show, there cometh the muck cart.??? Well if this wasn’t a repeat of Sunday’s head spinning goal fest, if wasn’t really the let down of the muck cart, cleaning up after all the horses. Quick fire second half goals from Yussuf Abdullahi and Harry Pratt gave a satisfactory response to Modou Adams strike for the home side just before half time.

A more disciplined performance meant that first half chances were few and far between. Stalybridge had the first chance in the opening minute as Jude Oyibo crossed for Scott Spencer to head over without necessarily looking like getting the required direction. They also had a good chance when Oyibo chipped over Badri in the FC goal but fortunately also over the bar as the half hour point approached.

FC United had a decent share of possession without truly testing the home defence until the 40th minute. Pratt and Kisimba Kisimba combined well to force a corner. This was cleared as far as Jack Ward who was fouyled outside the box and a Pratt free kick was deflected for another which was cleared after a scramble in the home penalty area.

Just as the sides were looking to go in at half time goal less Stalybridge produced the one moment of quality in the first half as they broke down their right wing and crossed for Adams to fire into the far corner.

This stung the reds into an explosive start to the second half, Kisimba was everywhere in the first ten minutes, providing a ball for Pratt to find Abdullahi at the far post; just unable to find the target and almost scoring himself with a rasping drive from 35 yards that keeper Matt Holmes managed to turn over for a corner.

The break through came after 50 minutes when Kisimba passed to Abdullahi who shot from 30 yards in at the near post. FC were in the lead scarcely a minute later when another fine move saw Pratt fire a shot into the top corner leaving Holmes stranded.

From there the last 40 minutes took much the same pattern as the first forty. Both sides had chances but in truth neither goalkeeper was seriously tested. Chris Hill turned in a sterling performance in a holding midfield role, allowing precious little beyond him defensively, yet managing to be the launch pad for a number of FC United attacks.
