Match Report
The games keep coming thick and fast for the FC Youth and if it is Thursday it must be Prescot Cables away. So off everyone tramped to Valerie Park and a good time was had by all, providing they weren’t representing Prescot. The lads were never truly threatened and came home with a 5-1 win. A high defensive line never really gave Prescot anywhere to play. Despite dominating possession there was only one goal to show for their efforts. That was scored midway through the first half when Andy Lee cut in from the touchline and fired in at the near post.

It wasn’t until the sixtieth minute that Prescot threatened the FC goal with a shot over from a corner. That however sparked the lads into life, going straight down the other end to double the score. Andy Lee ran into the box and had a shot parried by the Prescot keeper and their man of the match despite the scoreline; John Sharpe. The result was a scramble on the line and whether it was the first or twenty first shot wasn’t clear from the touchline but eventually Luke Walker put the ball in the net.

It was 3-0 twelve minutes later when midfield fulcrum Connor Naughton broke forward and put Sam Howell in behind the Prescot back line. He chipped the ball over the advancing keeper and saw it nestle in the far corner. This however provoked the home sides best move of the game and Lee Hughes was on hand to follow up a parried save by Jonathan Beisty.

Thoughts that Prescot might make a game of it, as they had done earlier in the season at St Bride’s were quickly put to bed as FC went back on the attack. Connor Naughton and Sam Howell went close in the next couple of minutes. A three goal cushion was restored in the next attack. Sharpe turned a shot from Andy Lee out for a corner. The relief was short lived as Sam Howells corner was headed on by Matthew Hassall for Kial Callacher to claim another poachers tap in at the near post.

A fifth goal was added by just before full time when Theo Kidd beat an offside trap and crossed for Matthew Boland to tap in, less than a minute after coming on as a substitute.

FC United of Manchester: Jonathan Beisty, Kyle Cunningham, Jonathan Poizer (Josh Smethurst 86 mins), Richard Smith, KialCallacher, James Brooks, Matthew Hassall, Connor Naughton, Sam Howell (Matthew Boland 86 mins), Andy Lee, Luke Walker (Theo Kidd 82 mins). Sub Not Used: Andrew Farrimond.

Goals: Andy Lee, Luke Walker, Sam Howell, Kial Callacher, Matthew Boland.

Caution: Richard Smith.
