Match Report
The weekend sun continued to bare down on St Bride’s on Sunday as the FC United youth welcomed AFC Liverpool at the start of a busy week, they play Mossley on Wednesday evening and Altrincham next Sunday. The weather turned out to be the only winner as the sides completed a hard fought goalless draw with few clear cut chances.
The best chances fell to Jay Walcott midway through the first half as twice he found himself running beyond the visitors defence. On the first of which he was unable to get a touch as the ball ran through to John Lynch in the visitors’ goal. The second chance saw him get a touch over the keepers head which sadly also cleared the cross bar.
Numerous half chances came and went but the game was for the most part played in midfield and neither keeper was seriously tested as most shots were off target. Ryan Lyons had a thirty yard free kick saved in the first half and played a ball down the line which Sam Howell chased and crossed. A mix up between defender and goalkeeper saw the former chest it down but back past Lynch. He was able to recover and prevent a soft own goal.
It was their first goalless draw for almost two years. The reds do however maintain their unbeaten run and look forward to the next step in their chase for the title and waiting another two years for such a result.
FC United of Manchester: Hayden Buckley Smith, Ryan Lyons, Carl Fitton (Sam Howell 45 mins), Harrison Reeve, Obied Elghreaw, Josh Burke (Jordan Evans 18 mins), Davison Banda, Scott Cheetham, Jay Walcott, Dylan Moloney, Luke Walker (Ryan Westwood). Subs not Used: Andrew Farrimond and James Green.
