Match Report
The United forwards had a fruitful evening in front of goal with Patterson claiming a hat-trick, although the second may be credited as an own goal, and Rudd unleashed a 25-yard rocket to reward the FC United faithful.
Alex Mortimer will claim the opening goal after 15 minutes which came straight from his corner and Patterson added the second two minutes before half time with a cool finish after racing onto a throughball from David Chadwick.
Nelson barely had time to rally their troops after the restart before Patterson rounded the ‘keeper to slot home the third in off a despairing defender. There was no doubt about Mr Mystery’s third though as he fired home a volley from the edge of the box after being teed up by Rudd.
The former-Skelmersdale striker then capped another resolute performance with a pile-driver into the top right corner. Former Leigh RMI midfielder Steve Smith made it six after being selflessly put through by David Swarbrick who had made a pacey cross field run.
Nelson looked all at sea, causing Sam Ashton few problems in the United goal as Margy’s men kept another clean sheet with an all hands on deck performance. In truth they could have scored more than six.
