FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY 'A' TEAM 1 TAMESIDE COLLEGE STALYBRIDGE ACADEMY TEAM 4
Sometime things don’t go your way, and so it proved on Wednesday afternoon when the FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team went down 1-4 against Tameside College Stalybridge Academy team in a home match switched to the Manchester Creative & Media Academy 3G ground at short notice.
The visitors opened the scoring with a goal from a free-kick inside the first two minutes, and then made it 2-0 on ten minutes with a long range effort that fairly flew into the goal.
Xavier Iwegbu netted on 22 minutes for the home side but the effort was chalked off for offside, leaving the score 2-0 to Stalybridge at half-time.
Within 15 seconds of the interval, it was 3-0, as the visitors added a quick third goal straight from the kick-off.
Six minutes into the second half, and the FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team pulled one back from the penalty spot after Xavier Iwegbu had been tripped just inside the box.
NIALL WEBB stepped up to take the spot kick, and although the visiting ’keeper got his hand to the shot, he couldn’t quite prevent the ball from entering the net.
Any hopes of the Young Reds fighting their way back into the game were dashed however when Stalybridge added a fourth on 57 minutes, and it might have been five on 66 minutes when a shot for the visitors struck the crossbar.
