Board Profile – Nick Boom

Current board term AGM 2023 – AGM 2025
Candidate statement AGM 2023:
I'm a loyal supporter / co-owner for 18 years. This club holds a special place in my heart, and I'm committed to serving on the board.
My FC United Journey
I’ve had an active involvement volunteering for FC United for a long time. Currently, I'm coleading the club's debt restructuring efforts, a significant step towards securing our financial future. I helped develop the club’s vision and business plans.
Additionally, I'm involved in providing mentorship and support to senior leaders at the club, ensuring our leadership is strong and cohesive. I was also behind the club’s committee structure, enabling more co-owners to get involved with the running of the club, as well as improving our governance and ensuring the club has stability in times of change.
I'm an active member of the Strategy and Governance Committee, playing a role in shaping the club's strategic direction. I held the position of deputy chair for the Stakeholder Relationship Management Committee, its predecessor. After four years as deputy chair, I voluntarily stepped down from chairing to ensure rotation as part of good governance. During this time, I diligently worked to build positive relationships with key stakeholders, strengthening FC United's presence in our community.
My Vision for FC United
I want to bring my passion for FC United and commitment to its values to the board. Here's what I aim to achieve:
First, I want FC United to stay true to its roots while embracing the future. Let's celebrate our history and traditions while attracting new, younger supporters who can carry our spirit forward.
Financial stability is vital. I'm committed to making smart financial decisions to secure our future. That way, we can invest where it counts most – on the pitch, in our facilities and on our community initiatives.
We’re an alternative to the mainstream, we should shout about this more, ensuring we are a leading voice in the supporter ownership movement.
My Experience Beyond FC United
In my career, I spent over 30 years in leadership roles at big financial institutions. This taught me a lot about strategy, people, money, and good decision-making. These skills will help us keep FC United financially stable.
I've also sat on boards and committees, so I know how to make things happen.
Beyond work, I've supported charities and community groups. This taught me about community involvement and grassroots efforts, values that match FC United's spirit.
