Last season’s treble winning youth team are hoping for one last silverware laden swansong at the Umbro International Cup this week and the class of 2009/10 are keen to match them.
FC United has entered youth teams into the annual competition has been running in Manchester since 1992 and attracts more than 4,000 teams from all over the world to the city to compete for various trophies.
The young Reds are currently top of the table in both Youth B, League B and Youth C, League C after beating Altrincham 3-0 and hammering United Eagles 9-0 respectively on Wednesday morning.
The team in Youth B, which actually sees a number of players from our treble winning side competing in one last swansong as under-18s, now have two games a day and will be taking on Manchester Gregorians, Bossmo & Ytteren, Allerton FC, and Salinas Soccer.
The side in Youth C, which will make up the majority of this season’s youth team, will be competing against Winsford, Tenby and Frodsham Town.
Youth team manager Peter Freakes said: "Both sides have got off to a great start but there’s still a lot of hard work to be done. It’s a competitive tournament but our lads have a very good chance to go all the way."??
