One of the peculiar things about owning a football club is that it can be quite easy to forget that you do...
At FC United, thousands of us own the club. Nobody owns a bigger piece than anybody else. Nobody gets the final say because they have the deepest pockets.
That's a special thing, but it comes with a challenge - it means there is nobody else.
If FC United is going to be well led, ambitious and properly run, then some of its owners have to be prepared to step forward and do that.
So, with November's AGM approaching, we want more co-owners to think seriously about standing for the Board.
Not because we need more people in meetings. Because we need more people prepared to lead.
People who can think, decide, challenge, bring ideas, take responsibility and get things moving.
You don't need to know everything about running a football club. Nobody does. There isn't a particular type of person we're looking for.
You might run a business, a team, a project or a budget. You might know football, finance, legal stuff, marketing, technology, community work or commercial development. You might simply have good judgement, energy and the ability to get things done.
And if you don't think of yourself as “Board material”, that doesn't necessarily mean you aren't.
We're not looking simply for more versions of the people already around the table.
FC United has no shortage of ideas about what it could become. We want to grow our support, develop men's and women's football, build stronger player pathways, make more of Broadhurst Park, grow our community work and become financially stronger.
None of that happens because somebody writes it in a plan.
It happens because people take responsibility for making it happen.
If you've ever stood at an FC game and thought why don't we do that?, we could do this better, or I know a bit about this - perhaps don't leave it as a thought.
Stand for the Board
At November's AGM, members will elect directors to help lead FC United.
To stand, you must have been a member in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, with your nomination supported by five other members.
Nominations close at 12 noon on 15 October.
If you're interested but unsure what the role involves, talk to us. You don't have to decide before you ask the question.
Or lead something through a Committee
Not everyone wants to be a board member and that's fair enough.
But there are plenty of other ways to take responsibility for something and move it forward.
Our six Committees need co-owners prepared to do exactly that:
Finance & Risk – strengthen how we plan, manage money and understand risk.
Marketing & Communications – grow our audience, communicate better and find new ways to tell people what FC United is about.
Commercial – find partners, develop opportunities and help generate the income that allows the club to do more.
Community – develop programmes, partnerships and funding and extend what FC United can do across our communities.
Football – help shape our football strategy and the pathways across youth, Academy, women's and men's football.
Co-ownership – find better ways to involve members and make supporter ownership work in practice.
Most meet generally once every month or two - with a remote option so you’d don’t need to live in Manchester.
We're not looking for people to make up the numbers.
We're looking for people who see something that could be better and are prepared to help make it better.

Supporter ownership gives every one of us a voice.
But every so often it needs some of us to do more than use it.
Don't assume somebody else will step forward.
Because, wonderfully and occasionally inconveniently, there is no somebody else.
There's us.
You own it. Help run it.
