Women's Team Update - Next Fixture Darwen (A) 30/10/22

Our women's team are enjoying a strong start to the season in the league, and in the FA Cup. Following last Sunday's 3-1 victory over West Didsbury and Chorlton to see us reach the First Round Proper of the Women's FA Cup it seems like a good opportunity to update people on our season so far, and look ahead to upcoming games. Starting this Sunday with an away trip to Darwen FC.

Next Match Darwen (A) 30/10/22

Firstly, we’re next in action this Sunday away to Darwen FC. It’s our first game in the league since September 25th as we’ve been in cup competitions for the past month. It’s also the last of 5 successive Sundays away from home. So, your support would be hugely appreciated by the team.

We currently sit 2nd in the North West Women’s Regional Premier League on 12 points after having played 4 games with a 100% record. We’re currently 1 point behind Cheadle Town Stingers having played 2 games fewer, so each game now is an opportunity to go top of the table if Cheadle slip up.

Our opponents currently sit 10th having played 5, picking up a solitary win with 4 defeats. That being said they are coming off the back of a 3-1 victory over AFC Bury in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend to reach the first-round proper for the first time so they’re certainly not a team to be underestimated.

The game is being played at the Anchor Ground (BB3 0BB) kicking off at 2pm with £3 admission for adults, and £1 for kids.

Our next game at Broadhurst Park is next Sunday 6th November as we host Crewe Alexandra in the league.

The Season So Far

A lot has happened over the past few months dating back to the appointment of James Mulvihill as Women’s Team Manager on a permanent basis back in the summer. We had a strong preseason finished off with a 2-0 victory over Liverpool U21’s to close out our preparations.

James was busy in terms of recruitment bringing in players from National League clubs to bolster our promotion push and add some strength in depth to the side before the league kicked into action. We have started well picking up 4 wins in our opening 4 fixtures beating Curzon Ashton at Broadhurst Park 4-0 to kick things off, we then travelled to Mossley Hill and battled hard to come away from Merseyside with a 2-0 before winning both games against West Didsbury & Chorlton 5-0, and 2-0. We’re currently the only side in the league not to drop points and we’re looking to continue that record this weekend at Darwen.

In terms of cup competitions, the biggest success has been our Vitality Women’s FA Cup run so far beating Wythenshawe AFC in the 2nd Round Qualifying and this past weekend beating West Didsbury & Chorlton for a third time this season in the 3rd Round Qualifying to progress into the first-round proper. We’ve been drawn at home against Merseyrail with the tie to be played on November 13th at Broadhurst Park.

Both our County Cup, and Argyle Cup campaigns ended in the 1st Round at the hands of Cheadle Town with us being put into the Argyle Plate and being eliminated from the County Cup.

Finally, a note of our upcoming fixture we’ve got a good run of games to come in the league and it would be fantastic to see you at Broadhurst Park supporting the girls in our aim to make it back into the National League at the first time of asking.
