What’s new at Broadhurst Park in 2023/24?

As we look ahead to an exciting new season with plenty of optimism spilling over from pre-season, we take a look at improvements off the field and update supporters on a number of changes to match days in M40.

SMRE

The Saint Mary’s Road End has seen various upgrades since we took ownership of Broadhurst Park 8 years ago; who remembers the gravel floor, cable reel tables and huddling together to try and stave off those Mancunian winter chills?

Since then it’s become a multi-purpose, functional space – supplying a vastly improved study space for our academy students during the week, a community space used by local groups in the evenings, and of course being the permanent home of our very own CYCM.

This summer the SMRE has had a relatively low-key series of works in comparison to previous years, but they’ve been important nonetheless. All the beer lines have been replaced and a new till system introduced, in addition there is now the option to purchase spirits for the first time – including our very own FC United ‘Red Rebels’ gin (mine’s a double!).

The bar counter has been painted, with a new top fitted and new lighting introduced to ensure its looking match fit for the new season.

CYCM

Down to the technical wizardry of those with the know how (Gavin) we are now able to combine the fixture list, with the CYCM gig list. As Course You Can Malcolm confirm more ‘turns’, these will be uploaded onto the fixture page so keep your eyes peeled.

Kazbar

2023/24 sees the Kazbar live up to its billing once more, after being fitted out with a new bar offering a selection of IPA, lager and cider. It’s still the place to go for your Bombay Sandwich (Balti pie and a samosa on a barm, with mint and chilli sauce), and all your other Quirky food offerings, but for this season you can pair them up with a fresh crisp pint.

New drink offerings!

Cruzcampo

For the 2023/24 season we are introducing a new lager to the draught range at BP. Cruzcampo was founded in Seville in 1904 and describes itself as ‘a pilsner style lager’.

Inches cider

Another newbie pint making its debut at BP this season, Inches is ‘a sustainable cider made from 100% British apples from within 40 miles of the supplier's Herefordshire mill, with all the waste from the apples being converted into green energy’.

New pint (& half) cups

At the 2022 General Meeting our members voted for Members’ Vote 1 which stated ‘The Club should, during the 2022-23 season, discontinue issuing single use plastic glasses and polystyrene food trays at the club for any match or function held at Broadhurst Park.’ Although we weren’t able to make this change during 2022-23, we have been hard at work in the close season and with the support of Joseph Holt we can confirm it is out with the single use plastic, and in with the paper cups for the coming year.

Programme

The summer has seen lots of work going on behind the scenes to improve the programme and put it on a firm footing for the future. A plan has been developed to drive sales and ensure it moves to a stable financial position.

‘Meet the owners’ was a very popular feature in yesteryear and this season it makes its return; if you would like to feature email 1878unitedmagazine@gmail.com. 2023/24 also sees the relaunch of programme token sheets giving the ability to win a number of money can’t buy prizes – more info here.

You can now pre-buy your programme and choose to collect from the programme stall on the day of the game, or have posted out straight to your door. To buy your Worksop programme click here. Don’t forget we also have our usual season-long programme subscription on offer, digital version here, postal version here.

Pound for the Ground

Our half time draw has recruited 3 new sellers for the coming season, ensuring you’re never far away from buying that lucky ticket. In addition, we are introducing a third ‘FC Star Prize’ for the coming year, which will make an appearance at certain points of the season. The star prizes are made up of FCUM related items donated by fellow fans – if you are thinking of clearing out your old FC United shirts, programmes or prints get in touch developmentfund@fc-utd.uk
