Walk2Support: Sponsored 125 Mile walk to Broadhurst Park for the Legends Game

So many people have come up with so many great ideas to raise money for FC, so that we can continue to be a self-sustaining viable football club. Where other club's owners leverage the world banking system at exhorbitant interest rates, or portion up the world into 'territories' to hawk a multitude of brand 'partnerships', FC's owners, in common with many other clubs up and down the pyramid, need to be creative when it comes to generating vital funds so that we can keep everything going on and off the pitch, and for commitment dedicating yourself to a week of walking takes some beating!

Dan's journey to Broadhurst started back in February 2020, we caught up with him for the full story:

"It was the Warrington 4-4 game and I was nattering to an FC fan who was over from Australia and couldn’t believe how good the style of football was under Reno. When we’d calmed down after Curtis Jones’ equaliser I giddily said the football is so good under Reno I’d walk to the ground to watch it! On the drive home still buzzing I called my partner Bekki and told her about it and boldly claimed I was going to do it…and unfortunately for me I’m a man of my word! Then with covid affecting my normal working week, and having had two weddings cancelled (both to Bekki btw!) I realised that I’d actually have the time to do it this year and get the practise in beforehand so it was now or never."

Dan has been training hard for over a month now, and he has self-funded all his travel and accomodation so ALL the funds he raises will be going directly to our club. As Dan says "As a member/co-owner of a supporter owned club, who have barely had a soul through the turnstiles in over a year, I feel the money will be best served making a difference to the club and therefore the local community."

Furthermore Neil Reynolds will be joining Dan on the first leg to show support for this huge commitment Dan is making - when it was suggested to Reno that he could help Dan by walking with him, and giving him some motivation along the way, the FC Manager leapt at the chance, though if the last few miles prove to be a bit of a challenge for Dan then the 'Runcorn Halftime Hairdryer' may be brought into action.

In addtion to Dan raising funds for FC, he's also mentioned the idea of walking to a few supporters of other clubs and they all thought it was a great idea. So far he has got in touch with other clubs through players, managers or supporters he knows, after the year we’ve all had and how much supporters have been missed, other fans could all show their love for their respective clubs. As it stands he's spoken with people connected to Cheltenham Town, Forest Green Rovers, Gloucester City, Banbury United, Stockport County, Mickleover, Sligo Rovers and Cliftonville, and if they can find a victim/hero to do the walk for them it will be amazing raising funds for their own clubs!

Keep an eye out on social media for further updates on Dan's (and Reno's) training updates and fundraising progress - if you'd like to support the cause then you can click here to donate:
