Position: Volunteer – Governance Support
Location: Broadhurst Park, Moston, Manchester (some remote working possible)
Time Commitment: A few hours per week (flexible)
Reporting to: General Manager (Company Secretary)
Overview
FC United of Manchester is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented volunteer to support our General Manager in fulfilling the duties of Company Secretary. This role would suit someone with a good eye for detail, an interest in governance, and the ability to handle confidential information with care.
Working closely with the General Manager and Board, you’ll play a key part in helping the club meet its governance and compliance responsibilities and contribute to the smooth running of board and committee processes.
Main Tasks
- Assist in preparing for board and committee meetings, including drafting and circulating agendas, minutes, and supporting documentation.
- Help coordinate communication with board members, co-owners, and key stakeholders.
- Support the organisation and administration of members’ meetings (including the AGM and any Special General Meetings), ensuring compliance with the club’s constitution and statutory obligations.
- Maintain governance records, registers, and filing systems (e.g. Companies House filings, board decisions).
- Assist with reviewing and updating policies, templates, and governance procedures where required.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Organised and detail-focused with strong written communication skills.
- Able to handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own time.
- Good digital literacy (MS Word, email, cloud-based folders).
Desirable:
- Previous experience in admin, governance, secretarial or compliance roles (paid or voluntary).
- Understanding of co-operative or community organisations.
- Interest in football, supporter ownership or community development.
