United United Day: What’s Happening and How You Can Get Involved

United United Days are always busier with fellow United fans, but with the addition of this joint protest, we expect Broadhurst Park to be even more packed than usual. The point of United United Day is to encourage Manchester United supporters to come down to Broadhurst Park and experience what we have to offer.

On Saturday 29th March, our fixture against Stockton Town will once again host United United Day at Broadhurst Park. Skip the queues and buy your tickets now via Fanbase.

What Is United United Day?

United United Day is a tradition that dates back to 2005 and has been held from time to time, most recently in 2019. It’s aimed at promoting a matchday to Manchester United fans when MUFC don’t have a fixture – encouraging them to experience FC United for the first time or to return if they haven’t been for a while.

What’s Different This Time?

What makes this year’s United United Day different is that The 1958 – a leading Manchester United fans group – will be attending for the first time to hold a joint protest as part of the day. This is significant as, in previous United United Days, we’ve never seen such a protest or attendance from any Manchester United supporters’ group.

Who Are The 1958?

The 1958 are a leading group of Manchester United supporters, with nearly 90k members and 120k followers on social media. They’ve been protesting against the Glazer ownership at Old Trafford, along with other issues impacting fan culture. In addition to public protests and marches, they’ve worked behind the scenes as a member of the Football Supporters Association, collaborating with other clubs to campaign on issues like ticket prices. For more information, visit their website at https://the1958.net/.

How Did Saturday’s Joint Protest  With The 1958 Come About?

The 1958 reached out to us a few weeks ago to better understand the path we’ve taken and to explore ways of uniting the Manchester United fanbase. It’s the first time in twenty years that any United fan group has formally contacted us like this.

Members of the club’s campaign group, including board and committee members, met representatives of The 1958 at Broadhurst Park earlier this month. We spent time discussing the history of protests against the Glazers, reflecting on the events of 2005, and emphasising the importance of the relationship between FC United and Manchester United supporters. The 1958 expressed their desire to bring together supporters from across the United fanbase, recognising how the fanbase has been divided for too long. From this discussion, the idea of using United United Day for a joint protest emerged and quickly evolved from there.

Are We Only Having United United Day Because Of This Protest?

No – the idea for this year’s United United Day was already in the works before our meeting with The 1958. We had been deciding on which fixture to hold it for; either Stockton Town (with MUFC having no match that weekend) or Whitby Town (Good Friday, with United at home on the Thursday evening and then on Easter Sunday).

The Stockton Town game was already the preferred option, and once our discussions with The 1958 progressed, it became clear that this was the best choice.

What Can We Expect On The Day

United United Days are always busier with fellow United fans, but with the addition of this joint protest, we expect Broadhurst Park to be even more packed than usual. The point of United United Day is to encourage Manchester United supporters to come down to Broadhurst Park and experience what we have to offer. The protest reaffirms that both FC United and The 1958 share many common values: standing up for supporters' rights, protecting fan culture, and campaigning for fair ticket prices.

The day will kick off at 1pm with a show of strength at the front of Broadhurst Park, where banners from both FC United and The 1958 will be on display. At 1.30pm, representatives from both groups will take the stage at Course You Can Malcolm to provide an update on the anti-Glazer campaign and answer any questions. Supporters will then gather on the SMRE terrace from 2.30pm with banners for a visible protest against the Glazer ownership and the current situation at Old Trafford.

With the promotion and media coverage, we expect a larger crowd than usual. While attendance is difficult to predict, we've planned for a busier day than a typical match. Pay on the Gate will be available, but we encourage supporters to purchase advance tickets via Fanbase to assist with our planning this week.

Many supporters attending on Saturday may be visiting FC United for the first time, and for some, it might be their first experience of non-league football. There will likely be younger fans who weren’t around in 2005 and may not be familiar with FC United’s history and values. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to welcome them, embrace their presence, and show them what FC United stands for. We expect there will be a lot of anti-Glazer songs, and it’s likely we’ll hear some of the old Manchester United songs too. That’s part of the passion and energy that comes with these events, and we want to make sure that all supporters, old and new, feel part of something special.

The 1958 have made it clear that, alongside the protest, they want supporters to experience FC United and what we stand for. Many first-time visitors will be at Broadhurst Park on Saturday, so let’s all do our best to give them a warm FC welcome. Ultimately, we want everyone to have a great day, enjoying the unity with fellow United supporters and experiencing what FC United represents.

We’ve Done Alright For 20 Years - Why Do This Now?

FC United was founded as an alternative for all Manchester United supporters, and that mission has remained as strong as ever. We’ve always offered a choice for fans—whether they’re disillusioned with the ownership at Old Trafford or feel priced out of top-flight football. We’ve never told United fans what to do; it’s always been about giving them the freedom to decide.

But more importantly, we’ve always wanted more United fans to understand what FC United stands for. We want them to see that we’re here, offering a real alternative, and to recognise that we share the same frustrations they do—frustrations about the Glazers, about ownership, and about fan culture being left behind.

For the first time in 20 years, The 1958, a leading United supporters’ group, reached out to us, recognising that we share common goals: getting rid of the Glazers and ensuring Manchester United is run with fans’ interests at the heart. This is a significant moment, and the positive response from both supporters and the media reflects just how important it is.

While many of our supporters no longer go to Old Trafford, we still have a strong following of fans who ‘do both.’ They continue to support United, but they also believe in what FC United offers as an alternative. The reasons people feel unable to stop going to Old Trafford are the same now as they were 20 years ago, and FC United remains a place where they can find a club that stands up for supporters' rights and campaigns for affordable admission prices.

How Can I Get Involved?

Here’s how you can get involved and help make sure FC United is well represented on the day:

  1. Join the Protest at 1pm: Come down to Broadhurst Park at 1pm and be part of the protest. Bring your flags, make some noise, and help show that FC United stands firm in its opposition to the Glazers. It’s important we’re visible and loud.
  2. Hear from The 1958: At 1:30pm, The 1958 will be on stage at Course You Can Malcolm (under the SMRE) to give an update on the anti-Glazer campaign. It’s a great chance to hear directly from them and ask any questions you might have. It’s important to understand the bigger picture and be part of the conversation.
  3. Fill the SMRE Terrace at 2.30pm: At 2.30pm, we want to pack out the SMRE terrace. The more supporters we have there, the stronger our message will be. It’s going to be an impressive sight, and we want to show our unity as supporters.
  4. Show What FC United is About: Many of those attending will be new to our ground, so let’s make them feel welcome. Show them around, help them find their way around Broadhurst Park, and if the SMRE bar is busy before the match, point them in the direction of the function room bar (please note: the function room bar is closing after half time). Let’s make sure everyone feels at home here.
