FC United are into the last 541 teams in the 2007/08 FA Cup after being made exempt until the Preliminary Round and they will learn who their opponents are when the draw takes place this Monday 2 July at 10am.
It’s our fledgling club’s first time in the oldest domestic cup in the world and manager Karl Marginson is eager to make a good debut when the match takes place on Saturday 1 September.
He said: "It’s our first taste of the competition so we want to do as well in it as we can. The target is to win the league again, but I’d say the FA Cup is more than just a welcome distraction; it’s a prestigious competition and I believe there’s good prize money in it, so if we do well that’ll help with the Development Fund or whatever."
If the Reds were to win, they would secure a place in the first of four Qualifying Rounds, meaning that they would be just four more victories away from the First Round Proper.
Margy isn’t getting carried away though: "There’s a long way to go yet, even before we come up against some quality non-league opposition. We’ll take it one game at a time, I know it’s a boring cliche but it rings true. It’s just a game of football, we’ll try to win it, as we always do, and then hopefully we’ll move on to the next round."
There are 731 entries in total into the FA Cup this year and the full list including the exemptions can be found on the
FA website.
