Trafford in the FA Cup
Following Trafford’s victory over Atherton LR at the weekend, FC United will play the North West Counties Division One side away from home in our first ever FA Cup tie.
The tie will be played on Sunday 2nd September at Moss Lane, Altrincham kick-off 3pm.
There has been some confusion and a little consternation from some supporters prompted by comments made by a member of Trafford’s staff as to the motives for moving the match.
Whilst the financial implications for a club of Trafford’s size should not be underestimated this was not the principal motive for moving the fixture to Moss Lane.
Assuming the police would have allowed the fixture to go ahead on its original date at Trafford’s own ground, which was by no means assured, there would have been a number of access, parking, facilities and health and safety issues that would have required solving in a very short space of time by Trafford.
It is certain the police would have insisted that the game was all-ticket and capacity would have been severely restricted meaning a sizeable number of FC United supporters would not have been able to see our first ever FA Cup game.
We do however recognise that moving the game to Sunday (Altrincham play at home on Saturday meaning the ground is unavailable) may have caused disruption to some supporters who have booked travel tickets. In recognition of this, any supporters who have purchased non-refundable tickets are asked to e-mail the club at office@fc-utd.uk and we will refund the cost of these tickets.
