1 – Semi-final awaits: The Reds’ next fixture is a trip to Brookburn Road to face West Didsbury & Chorlton in the semi-final of the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup. United are returning to the ground in which they have lifted the trophy in both of the last two seasons, having beaten Sunday’s opponents at the same stage of the competition in 2017/18. Should FC make it to the final for the third year in the row, another trip to Brookburn Road will be on the cards after it was confirmed by Manchester FA last week that the venue will host the competition’s final once again.
2 – Captain’s optimism: Skipper Kirsty Chambers has been looking forward to this weekend’s semi-final and acknowledges that it is a difficult task ahead of the Reds but believes that they have every chance of succeeding on Sunday. Chambers said: “We know that it’s going to be a tough game but the motivation and determination all of the girls have got at the moment is key. We’re just going to go out and play the football that we play every week and just see it as a normal game.”

3 – Fixture update: Due to adverse weather, the Reds had a rare weekend off with last Sunday’s Argyle Cup quarter-final clash with Penrith AFC Ladies postponed. The tie has been re-arranged for Sunday 24 March at Broadhurst Park, with the home league fixture against Wigan Athletic to be subsequently moved. The Reds therefore won’t be back in league action until late March’s visit to Penrith AFC Ladies.
4 – Argyle Cup action elswhere: Despite United’s tie being postponed, two other quarter-final results were decided at the weekend. Merseyrail Ladies edged past Tranmere Rovers Ladies 1-0 whilst Stockport County LFC were awarded with a home walkover in their tie against Sir Tom Finney Ladies. West Didsbury & Chorlton Women’s game with Chester FC Women was also postponed, with that fixture also set to be played on March 24.
5 – Milestones up: United’s latest win, a comfortable 7-0 league victory at Sir Tom Finney LFC, brought up several goalscoring milestones for both the season and the team’s history. Aimee O’Keeffe scored five of the seven on the day with her first the team’s 50th league goal in 2018/19. The forward’s fourth of the afternoon was also FCUMW’s 300th goal on the road since formation in 2012 whilst Jess Battle’s strike was the Reds’ 600th league goal in total.
