FC United of Manchester was founded on the belief that supporters can run a football club responsibly, transparently, and in line with shared values. That belief has carried us through difficult periods, and in recent seasons it’s helped us make real, measurable progress. Careful budgeting, stronger commercial activity, and the commitment of volunteers and supporters mean the club is in a far more stable position than it was. That’s something we should acknowledge and take pride in.
At the same time, being supporter‑owned means being open about the realities of running a football club. Like most clubs at our level, our finances are seasonal. Winter is always the tightest period: matchday income drops while costs continue, and cashflow naturally tightens. This year, a few factors have added to that pressure — the loss of the Widnes home fixture, cup draws replacing Saturday league games, and the additional costs associated with certain matches. Postponed Saturday fixtures also bring in far less when they’re rearranged for midweek. None of this is unusual or unexpected, but it does create a temporary gap we need to manage sensibly.
Because we don’t rely on a wealthy backer, we manage these moments the way a supporter‑owned club should: openly, collectively, and with a focus on long‑term sustainability. That’s why we’re launching Missing Matches again this season. It’s a prudent step to ensure the club remains on a stable footing through the winter.
A key part of Missing Matches this year is that it isn’t simply about giving money. We’ve put together some brilliant rewards - including experiences that money can’t normally buy - as a genuine thank you to supporters who choose to get involved. These rewards bring people closer to the club and celebrate what makes FC United unique.
Every contribution - large or small - helps us maintain financial stability, support the playing budget, and continue operating in line with our values: supporter ownership, community focus, and long‑term sustainability.
