It’s all to play for FC United Women in this double game week – with last Thursday’s fixture against Leeds United cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, our last game played was against Stockport County Ladies away from home on the 10th March. Felicity Hitch reports.
Frustrating finish for FC United of Manchester
It was a tough ending to the match for FC United of Manchester Women’s, as Stockport County Ladies FC scored their third goal in the last two minutes, making the final score 3-0.
Both teams headed to Edgeley park last Sunday, with an attendance of 737 people in the stands.
The first two goals for Stockport were scored by number 7, Levi Rathburn, in the first half. These earned her player of the match.
As frustrations rose in the team for FC United of Manchester, their manager Jennie Swarbrick was seen at the side of the pitch, encouraging the girls to keep going.
Although the second half started slowly, the last moments of the match were tough ones to take for FCUM. Stockport’s Kennedy Owen had the ball on the edge of the box, and kicked it into the bottom half of the away team’s net – with only 2 minutes to go.
Despite the score, FCUM’s goalkeeper Sophie Donald had some solid saves in the second half. She was seen diving across the net to stop Stockport’s chance of any more goals.
Unfortunately, FCUM’s efforts were not enough to earn them 3 points in this match. Next, they play Chorley on Thursday (21/03/24) back at Broadhurst Park Stadium. Kick off will be at 19:45.
