We note today’s statements from both Marske United and the Pitching In Northern Premier League regarding Marske’s decision to resign from the Northern Premier League with immediate effect.
We understand that this will have been a difficult decision for the club to make, after the progress they have made in recent seasons. We also note the impact that this decision will have on other clubs across the league.
First and foremost, we’d like to express our solidarity and sympathy with the supporters, players, staff and volunteers at Marske United, who now face at least six months without football. We’ve had some great battles with the Seasiders over the last few seasons, both at Broadhurst Park and at Mount Pleasant, where we always received a friendly welcome. We wish everyone at Marske well, and we hope that our paths will cross again in the future.
Supporters will be aware that we were scheduled to face Marske at Broadhurst Park on Saturday 20th January. This fixture will now obviously not go ahead.
The winter period is a difficult time for clubs throughout non-league with the threat of postponements, and so losing this fixture in these circumstances is far from ideal, on top of having lost two fixtures to the weather in December. This financial impact will be felt across the league by those clubs who were still due to host Marske United over the remainder of the season.
We’re seeking to arrange a friendly match at Broadhurst Park for 20th January, albeit recognising that this will be challenging with most clubs already having a fixture on that date. We’ll update supporters as soon as we’re able to provide any news regarding a friendly, or another event, for that date.
