Renewal Years: Supporting Women Through Menopause and Beyond

A support for women, knowing they aren't alone

Renewal Years: Supporting Women Through Menopause and Beyond

Women across North Manchester are being invited to take part in Renewal Years, a new health and wellbeing programme designed to support women experiencing perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause.

Led by the North Manchester Menopause Peer Support Group (NMMPSG), Renewal Years has been created by women with lived experience who understand first-hand the challenges, questions and uncertainties that can come with menopause. The programme aims to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive space where women can learn, connect and gain a better understanding of their health and wellbeing.

While the North Manchester Menopause Peer Support Group was established to support women through shared experiences and peer support, Renewal Years takes this a step further by combining education, physical activity and community leadership opportunities.

The programme recognises that menopause affects every woman differently. For some, it can impact confidence, physical health, mental wellbeing and day-to-day life. Renewal Years aims to help women better understand what is happening within their bodies and provide practical tools and knowledge that can support healthier, more informed choices.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, including:

  • Strength and physical activity sessions
  • Menopause and health education workshops
  • Peer support and group discussions
  • Health checks and wellbeing monitoring
  • Opportunities to become community health champions

A key focus of the programme is helping women understand the links between menopause and longer-term health conditions, including hypertension (high blood pressure) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). By increasing awareness, encouraging healthier lifestyles and promoting regular physical activity, the programme hopes to support women to take positive steps towards improving their long-term health outcomes.

Strength training forms a central part of the programme, helping women to build confidence, improve fitness, support bone health and discover the benefits of being more physically active. The sessions are designed to be welcoming and accessible, regardless of previous experience.

Weekly strength sessions take place at FC United of Manchester:

  • Tuesday, 5:30pm to 6:30pm
  • Thursday, 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Beyond the sessions themselves, Renewal Years is also focused on developing Health Creators. Participants will have opportunities to build their confidence, share learning with others and become advocates for women's health within their local communities. By empowering women with knowledge and lived experience, the programme hopes to create lasting change and improve health outcomes for future generations.

Renewal Years forms part of the wider Health Creation Project, funded by Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO) and overseen by Manchester Settlement. The programme is led by the North Manchester Menopause Peer Support Group, with FC United of Manchester supporting delivery as a project partner.

Together, the partnership aims to ensure women across North Manchester have access to trusted information, meaningful support and opportunities to improve their health, wellbeing and confidence.
