Reds fit and ready for Mystic Margy
FC United go into tomorrow’s FA Cup Preliminary Round match against Trafford with the entire squad fit and available except Rory Patterson who will be serving the second game of a three-match suspension.
Two victories last weekend have buoyed manager Karl Marginson but they came as no surprise to the man himself. Last week, whilst speaking to the official website, ’Mystic’ Margy confidently predicted that someone was going to be ’on the end of a hiding very soon’.
Less than 12 hours later, Bridlington Town had been annihilated 6-0 at Gigg Lane and by the end of the Bank Holiday weekend the Reds had two wins under their belts in the new season courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Rossendale United. Margy contentedly said: "I knew it was coming. With the squad that we’ve got and their ability no-one should be able to touch us in this league, it’s all about taking our chances."??
Speaking of Patterson’s four-goal haul against Bridlington, Margy said: "Rory thrives on people criticising him. Maybe he read my programme notes last Saturday (where Marginson said Patterson had been under performing) and thought he’d shove them down my throat! But he’s an honest lad and knows himself that he can do better."??
One thing is for sure though, Patterson will leave a void in the team tomorrow and Margy is still deciding how to fill it. He said: "I’ve got a few ideas that I’m toying with at the moment. We’ve got Anthony Hargreaves but Simon Carden can also play up there so we’ll see."??
With some bookmakers reportedly offering 16,000-1 on FC United to actually the lift the famous trophy come May, the chances of the Reds going all the way are obviously very low but everybody at the club is still extremely enthusiastic about competing in the competition.
As well as the prize money for getting through to each round, Margy knows that the FA Cup offers a great opportunity to him and all the players. He said: "I think it’s the only competition in the world that gives non-league footballers the chance to take on some teams higher up; some of the bigger boys from the Conference and also ultimately, if they get that far, the Premiership. It’s a great competition because of that."??
