FC United will play Newcastle Town at home in the first qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday 16 October after the Staffordshire side beat fellow Evo-Stik Division One South outfit Goole 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Newcastle are currently in third place in the league below the Reds so they should prove a tough test. United have played and beaten The Castle twice before. During our second season there was a 5-1 demolition at Gigg Lane with a hat-trick from Stuart Rudd which followed a 3-2 thriller at the Lyme Valley Stadium.
Simon Carden scored a last minute winner as the Reds came from 2-1 behind to snatch victory with the club’s all-time top scorer, Rory Patterson playing in goal due to an injury to Sam Ashton.
Details about the match on Saturday 16 October will follow in due course.
