FC United is delighted to announce that midfielder-turned-rightback Declan McLoughlin has become the second player to sign a contract with the club until the end of the 2024/25 season, as first team manager Neil Reynolds continues to build his team for the future.
The former Skelmersdale United player joined us in July 2023 as a non-contracted player and has already made 26 appearances and scored three goals, including a screamer against Stafford Rangers in December.
Declan’s performances and attitude has impressed Reynolds enough to offer him a contract. Neil said: “Declan has great pedigree and his understanding of the game is incredible. We spotted him playing in the leagues below us and recruited him as a midfielder. He quickly became a righback but he can still play in midfield.
“We’ve coached and transferred him into a new position, that doesn’t happen overnight, and Dec has bought into this. Because of that, we see Dec as an important part of our future. We love our attacking fullbacks and Dec fits that bill.
“We’re building a squad for the future and I’m delighted that Dec’s committed to the club for 18 months. I’m excited by the calibre of players we’re attracting to the club and I hope the fans are too.”
Just like Aaron Bennett, who signed a contracted earlier this week, Declan was initially keen to sign until the end of this season, but following the announcement of Neil's own contract extension until April 2026, he was delighted to commit to the club for longer with a contract securing his services until May 2025.
We caught up with Declan for a quick interview, which you can watch on social media. He said: “I’ve loved it here since the moment I signed. The size of the club, the ground, the fans, who always come out in their numbers, and the lads are really good too. I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m sure that’ll continue into the future too.”

Congratulations Declan – we're looking forward to seeing many more quality performances, marauding runs, and 25-yard screamers over the months to come!
