Nugent back for Reds
Rob Nugent has handed a boost to FC United as they look to make it three wins in a row and extend their unbeaten run to six games on Wednesday night against Cammell Laird without captain, David Chadwick.
Chaddy has to serve his one game ban but Nugent, the Reds’ longest serving player, should be back to sure up the defence after receiving a steroid injection to help with his knee injury which has kept him out of action for most of the season so far.
The Merseysiders are hoping to become the first team ever to do the league double over United after beating them 2-1 at Kirklands in August. However, Margy’s side will be full of confidence having only lost once in their last nine outings.
Laird’s form on the other hand has been indifferent. In their last match they lost to Buxton at home but before that they beat both Bradford Park Avenue and Witton Albion on their travels. They sit five places below the Reds in 17th place and have played three games more.
Nugent is expected to join Alex Skidmore, Adam Turner and Liam Foster at the back whilst in midfield Adam Carden will be chomping at the bit to play having travelled down to the south coast for a trial with the reserve team of League Two outfit AFC Bournemouth which never materialised due to a waterlogged pitch.
Jerome Wright should take up the left wing position meaning Simon Carden, Danny Warrender and Chris Baguley will be fighting it out to get the nod from Margy to play in the middle of the park. Kyle Wilson will be looking to add to his incredible tally of 17 goals in 18 games whilst Carlos Roca will be hoping to maintain his ratio of one strike in every three starts.
