What You’ll Be Doing

Overview: The Assistant Accountant presents an excellent opportunity for individuals who have made progress in their journey towards becoming a qualified accountant. This role is tailored for those who are part-qualified and eager to further develop their skills and expertise within the finance and accounting field. The Assistant Accountant will report directly to the Financial Controller while closely collaborating with the General Manager and departmental heads. This position plays a crucial role with various financial and accounting tasks, requiring strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team. The Assistant Accountant will play a pivotal role in the organisation, contributing to accurate financial reporting, budget management, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

To aid you in your journey, substantial mentorship and support will be available. You will benefit from the expertise and guidance of the Financial Controller and other qualified accountants. This mentorship will provide you with valuable insights and help you continually develop your skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analysis as required by management or regulatory bodies.
  2. Budgeting: Collaborate with the finance team to assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.

 

  1. Finance Team Leadership Support: Oversee financial department employees, including financial assistants and volunteers

 

  1. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, payments, and receipts accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain vendor and customer records, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with payment terms.

 

  1. Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial records and identify discrepancies.

 

  1. General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance of the general ledger by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring proper documentation of transactions.

 

  1. Expense Management: Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring adherence to company policies.

 

  1. Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to audit inquiries.

 

  1. Tax Compliance: Assist in tax-related tasks, including the preparation and submission of tax returns and compliance with tax regulations.

 

  1. Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement. Present findings to senior management as necessary.

 

  1. Process Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.

 

  1. Managing Financial Risk: Learn to assess and manage financial risk, contributing to the organisation's financial stability.

 

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree, or degree equivalent, in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CIMA, ACCA or ACT enrolment is a must).
  • Strong desire to pursue a career in accounting or finance.
  • Proven experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAGE) and MS Excel.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and audit processes (preferred).

 

This role is based at Broadhurst Park in Moston, North Manchester, close to the motorway network and city centre. Public transport networks are good and there is on-site free car parking.

The role is 37.5 hours per week.

There may be a requirement for match day working when FC United are playing at home.

The role offers a competitive starting salary of between £25,000 and £30,000, dependent on experience.
