After eight years and more than 230 appearances in an FC United shirt, Donners needs little introduction to our supporters.
He joined the club in September 2018 as a 21-year-old, making his debut in a 2-2 draw against Bradford Park Avenue at Broadhurst Park. His first goal followed later that month in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Colne.
Now the armband is his.
Michael said:
“To be made Club Captain is a massive honour and something I’m immensely proud to have been asked to do.
“I’ve spent the majority of my career at this club and I can’t thank the club and the fans enough for the support they’ve given me, on and off the pitch.
“I’ll do my utmost to help get the club to where it belongs and repay the belief you’ve all put in me.”

“I’m delighted that Donners has agreed to take on the role of Club Captain.
“He’s been at FC United a long time. He knows the club, he understands what it means to our supporters and he understands the relationship between the players and the people on the terraces.
“He leads by example, on the pitch and in the dressing room, and he’s exactly the sort of person I want representing this team.”
There is something particularly fitting about a player who arrived at FC United at 21, has grown with the club and become one of our longest-serving players now being asked to lead it.
At FC United, wearing the captain’s armband carries a particular responsibility. It means representing your teammates, but it also means representing our supporters and understanding the club whose shirt you're wearing.
Donners understands that.
