Match Preview for FC United's trip to face Worksop Town tomorrow afternoon in the Pitching In Northern Premier League (3pm KO)
FC United manager, Mark Beesley on the squad, recent form: “We’ve got a couple of knocks that we’re dealing with that we’ll have to make decisions on immediately before the game, but we’re hopeful on those so we’ll be looking to put out a strong side.
“As I’ve said before, all we can do is take things one game at a time, but of course it’s always nice to go into Christmas on the back of a win, so we’ll be looking to build on last week’s performance at Basford.”
Amongst the frontrunners for a play-off place this season, Craig Parry’s Worksop sit third in the Northern Premier League with 12 wins and three draws to show from 22 games. Luke Shiels’ 97th minute leveller rescued a point for the Tigers in a 3-3 draw against Warrington Rylands on Tuesday night.
Only league leaders Macclesfield (50) have scored more league goals than Worksop (45) this campaign. Jordan Burrow leads the side with 10 goals to his name, one of which came in FC’s 2-0 defeat at Worksop in the FA Trophy First Round at the start of November.
“They’re a really good side, and that’s demonstrated by their league position,” said Beesley on Worksop. “Their game on Tuesday night was probably one they would’ve gone into expecting to win, but when you get a late goal like they did, even if it’s only for a draw, it definitely gives you a boost heading into your next game.”
It’s the third time FC have faced Worksop this season, most recently being the FA Trophy matchup in late October. A solitary Josh Wilde goal gave the Tigers the points in the first league meeting at Broadhurst Park back in August.
FC’s recent away record against Worksop is an unfortunate one; the Reds last avoided defeat in north Nottinghamshire in the 2011/12 Northern Premier League season. Goals from Nicky Platt and Lee Neville helped FC United on their way to a 3-2 win at Sandy Lane in November 2011.
Beesley: “It’s a couple of months since we faced Worksop in the Trophy, so it’s going to be interesting to see how we’ve progressed since then.”
Venue: The Windsor Foodservice Stadium, Sandy Lane, Babbage Way, Worksop S80 1UJ
Kick-Off: 3pm
