Match preview for FC United's trip to Worksop Town in tomorrow's Isuzu FA Trophy First Round tie.
Craig Parry’s Worksop have been one of the standout sides in the NPL Premier Division this season, currently sitting second in the table only behind unbeaten Macclesfield. The Tigers have encountered struggles at home in the last few weeks, losing their last three games at Sandy Lane.
Worksop are the leading scorers in the Northern Premier League with 34 goals, eight of which have come through former Morecambe and Stevenage striker Jordan Burrow. Burrow won the equalising penalty in Town’s 2-1 win against St. Ives in the last round of the Trophy.
Parry joined the club in 2020 after guiding Pontefract Collieries to the NPL South East playoff final in 2019. Worksop almost achieved consecutive promotions under Parry after reaching the playoffs last season, but were defeated 3-1 by Macclesfield in the semi-final.
FC United manager, Beesley on Worksop: “I think they’ll be very up for the game, wanting to keep their good start going. While they look to be challenging for promotion again this season I don’t think that will impact their wanting to win this game and go as far as possible.”
United will to make amends for their league defeat against the Tigers earlier this season, when Josh Wilde scored the only goal as Worksop claimed a 1-0 win at Broadhurst Park in the first home game of the campaign. Last season’s trip to Worksop saw the hosts run out 4-0 winners in December, a reverse of FC’s 3-0 victory in Moston last August.
It’s not the first time FC have faced Worksop away in the FA Trophy; a brace for Kyle Wilson along with a goal for David Chadwick gave the Reds a 3-0 win at Watnall Road back in November 2008.
Beesley on the FA Trophy: “I reached the semi-finals once as a player but never further than that. We will be treating it just the same as any other game, the important thing is that we right the wrongs of last Saturday (Bamber Bridge).”
