Match preview for FC United's trip to Basford United in the Pitching In Northern Premier League this afternoon (3pm KO).
FC United manager, Mark Beesley on training: “With last Saturday’s match being off, we’ve had plenty of time on the training pitch. I’ve been pleased with the application I’ve seen from the lads, particularly last Saturday when the weather was terrible.”
Basford currently sit 14th in the Northern Premier League, with three defeats, one draw and one victory to show from their last five league games. Martin Carruthers’ side host the Reds off the back of a 6-5 penalty shootout victory against National League side FC Halifax Town in the third round of the FA Trophy.
Ashley Chambers leads the way for the Ambers in the goalscoring department with 11 in all competitions. The former Leicester City striker scored the only goal in Basford’s 1-0 win in Moston in September.
Beesley on Basford, maintaining form: “They are a good side with a good manager, and they’ll be coming into today on a high after a great FA Trophy result last week.
“We’ve only lost one of the last six in the league, so it would be nice to keep that momentum going and start picking up some more points.”
FC’s defeat against Basford in early September was the first since the 2019/20 season, ending a six-game unbeaten run against the side from north Nottingham. The Reds have never lost on their travels against Basford, winning once and drawing twice.
Our last trip to Greenwich Avenue saw the points shared in a 1-1 draw last season. Luke Griffiths’ 12th minute penalty cancelled out an early opener by Toby Ritzema to bring a point back to Manchester last October.
