On Sunday 17th September FC United Women return to Broadhurst Park after back-to-back away games to face Chester Le Street Town Ladies.
Kick-off: 2:00pm
The two teams
The two sides have had a tough start to the season and make up the bottom two going into this fixture. FC will be looking to put a tough week behind them and get the first win of the season. Successive defeats on the road at Chorley and York have reinforced the step up at this level and playing in front a good home crowd will hopefully inspire the team to get that first win.
The visitors have had a slightly better week; with their first win of the season coming against Norton & Stockton Ancients in midweek, before suffering a home loss to Hull City on Sunday. Their furthest away trip of the season so far, the northeast outfit will be hoping the game sees the return of their 2023-23 form when they finished second behind Newcastle United – missing out on promotion by goal difference.
In 1909 & 1911 which village from County Durham were labelled ‘World Champions’ by beating the likes of Stuttgart, Winterthur and Juventus?

Answer: West Auckland Town FC were twice crowned ‘world champions’ by winning the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy in 1909 & 1911. One of the first international football competitions, the FA refused to nominate a team to compete with their counterparts from Germany, Italy and Switzerland so amateur side West Auckland filled the space. The team were mostly made up of coal miners and a particular highlight was defeating Juventus 6-1 in the 1911 final.
