Manchester FA Women's Challenge Cup Final Preview: FC United Women v Salford City Lionesses

FC United Women will attempt to lift the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup for the third successive year on Wednesday night with Salford City Lionesses the opponents.

The final will again be held at West Didsbury & Chorlton’s Brookburn Road (M21 8FE) on Wednesday 15 May; 7.30pm kick-off.

Entry is priced at £4 for adults, £2 for concessions (16-18 years, OAPs) and £1 for under-16s.

United progressed to the Final, for the third year in a row, after a 4-3 win at Brookburn Road against West Didsbury & Chorlton Women in the semi-final.

A comfortable double-figured victory at Sale Ladies FC got United’s defence of the trophy underway, at the quarter-final stage.

The Reds have beaten City of Manchester Ladies and Manchester Stingers in 2017 and 2018 respectively, to win the Cup and will be hoping to make it three on the bounce on Wednesday evening.

United’s opponents, Salford City Lionesses, have already won three trophies of their own in their debut season. Having formed for the 2018/19 campaign, the Lionesses have won the GMWFL Division One title before wins in back-to-back weeks against Langho Ladies saw them add the GMWFL Open Age Cup and the GMWFL Division One Cup to their collection.

FC will be hoping to inflict Salford’s first defeat of their short history on Wednesday evening, with the Lionesses unbeaten so far this season. Their route to the final has seen them overcome Manchester Rovers Ladies, Bar Hill Women and Manchester Stingers.

The Reds will be aiming to continue the defence of the trophy, in their first ever meeting with the Lionesses, on Wednesday evening. It’s set to be a good one. We hope to see you there!
