Join FC United of Manchester: Lead the Future of Women’s Football

Are you ready to be part of something different? FC United of Manchester, the UK’s largest 100% fan-owned football club, is looking for a committed and passionate individual to lead our Women’s First Team. Join us as we build a brighter future for women’s football at one of England’s most community-driven clubs.

We’re a club with a difference. Founded by supporters, owned by supporters – and run for the benefit of our communities – FC United has always done things with purpose and values. We believe football should be affordable, inclusive and a force for good. That’s why we combine ambition on the pitch with a deep commitment to grassroots sport, youth opportunity, and community engagement across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Women’s and girls’ football is a key part of that vision. This season, we’ve launched the Women’s Development Team and are focused on resetting and rebuilding a more joined-up, sustainable programme that supports the First Team and creates clear progression routes. This includes relaunching our Girls’ Academy with a refreshed approach, deepening our partnership with Moston Juniors, and developing new alliances with local grassroots clubs to strengthen the football pathway.

At the top of this pathway, we’re now focused on building a strong and ambitious First Team set-up — with the right support, the right leadership, and the right culture to help it thrive. You’ll be working within a structured and collaborative football environment, supported by an active football committee, coaching team and a dedicated Women’s Secretary who oversees key administration and player registrations.

This is an exciting project over the next 3 to 5 years, where we’re not chasing instant results but focusing on getting the foundations right. We want someone who sees the potential, who believes in developing people as much as players, and who will grow and develop with us.

We’re proud to be backed by one of the most loyal, committed and vociferous fanbases in the country – supporters who care deeply about the women’s game and who will be with you every step of the way. Join us and help shape something meaningful at a values-led, supporter-owned club rooted in its community.

Role Profile: Women’s First Team Manager

  • Position: Women’s First Team Manager
  • Location: Broadhurst Park, Manchester
  • Closing Date: Tuesday 13 May, 5pm
  • Application Contact: Simon Preston – simon.preston@fc-utd.uk

Key Responsibilities

As Women’s First Team Manager, you’ll lead the squad both on and off the pitch, working closely with a supportive football committee and a wider coaching team and football secretary. You will:

  • Lead all football-related activities for the Women’s First Team, including matchdays and training.
  • Build a strong, positive team culture and help shape a competitive, committed squad.
  • Support player development and progression, with clear links to the Development Team and Girls’ Academy.
  • Contribute to a clear footballing philosophy and style of play in line with the club’s values.
  • Work with the football committee on team planning, recruitment and budget oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with FA rules and standards, including registrations, safeguarding and conduct.
  • Represent the team and club professionally at matches, league meetings and other relevant events.
  • Collaborate with other coaches across the women’s and girls’ setup – you’ll be part of a wider pathway but not expected to manage everything.

You’ll be supported by an experienced football committee, our Development Team Manager, and other coaching and operational staff. You won’t be expected to do everything – but we will look to you for leadership, motivation, and belief.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and levels of experience. You might already have experience managing at this level, or you may be a coach ready to step up and lead a team for the first time. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in coaching or managing senior teams – ideally in women’s football.
  • Brings a strong belief in player development and positive team culture.
  • Understands the demands of grassroots and semi-professional football.
  • Can collaborate well with others and contribute to a joined-up football programme.
  • Shares our values around inclusion, respect, and the power of football to change lives.

Why Join FC United of Manchester?

  • Be Part of Something Different: We are England’s leading supporter-owned club, built by fans and powered by people who care.
  • Exciting Rebuild: This is a chance to shape a long-term footballing project – with support, stability and ambition.
  • Iconic Venue: At FC United, we are thrilled to play all our league and FA Cup games at the iconic Broadhurst Park stadium. This provides a vibrant and electrifying atmosphere where both players and supporters come together.
  • Pathway Focused: We’re creating clear routes from girls’ football to the First Team, including our new Development Team and Girls’ Academy.
  • Supportive Environment: You’ll work with a committed football committee and coaches across the programme.
  • Real Impact: Be part of a club where football is more than a game – it’s a tool for community, opportunity and inclusion.
