FC United is saddened to learn about the death of longstanding volunteer John Bradley, and we wish to offer our condolences to all of his family and friends.

John was a familiar, friendly face to many supporters – often the first person fans would see as they entered the ground, as he volunteered on the Membership Stall with Tom Stott.

A lifelong Manchester United supporter, John gave up his cherished season ticket at Old Trafford and became an extremely active and committed FC United member.

Pride
He will forever be immortalised in the 2015 documentary Club with a Capital C where he was one of the main interviewees. In the film, John spoke of his pride in supporting and volunteering for our club.

He said: “You’ve got a stake in it, you get a vote in it, you feel as if you own it. People volunteer, contribute and give up what time or skills that they’ve got, sacrificing their own pleasure so that others can enjoy the game. You always go home feeling as though you’ve fulfilled something. It’s a great feeling.”

High Peak Supporters
John’s son, Ian said: “My father volunteered with his wife Kath in the club offices prior to moving into Broadhurst Park. He started, and volunteered on, the Membership Stall at Gigg Lane and then at Broadhurst Park.

“Dad volunteered for The FCUM Diggers for many years, and we also ran the High Peak Supporters’ Group. He went to all the early meetings, was an inaugural member, season ticket holder and regularly went to most away games including the Euro aways."

Funeral arrangements
John’s funeral is taking place at 2:30pm next Wednesday 28th February at Dukinfield Crematorium with a Celebration of Life to follow at Glossop Cricket Club. All are welcome with peaceful respect.

RIP John. You'll be missed by many.
