Between the sticks once more is Sophie Donald who made the clean sweep at last year’s end of season awards, being recognised for her incredible contributions to the team by the manager, fans, fellow players and by FC Radio. Last season saw her make some incredibly important penalty saves both in the semi-final and the final match of the Manchester FA Challenge Cup that saw us lift the trophy.
In front of her, Shaunna Jein, Cara Bickett and Jace Carlin return to form our backline along with young Kaycie McVey from our own academy. New signings include Charlie Ferguson, Darcey Griffin who were unveiled early in the pre-season. They will be joined by Melissa Ebert and Elisabeth Muellner who comes to us from AFC Oldham.
Further up, we have a new addition to the squad in Daisie Hastwell and what will feel like new with Alice Firth and Keunna Dill eventually returning to the squad. Firth will be making her return from injury and Dill of course from the recent birth of a beautiful baby girl – congratulations once again! Isabella Kershaw has been retained along with Emily Walton, however Walton will not be starting having picked up a knee injury. At present, we are estimating 3 months out until she can be reassessed after her scan.
Up front Naomi Lawrence who had a stellar season in the British University & College Sport leagues and has now graduated (another congratulations there!) will be here for another season at Broadhurst Park along with Mia Hayes who has been retained. In addition to Lawrence, Hayes and Dill, the club has also signed Jessica Corcoran, Katie Smith, Abby Lester and Ivy Caraher who has now been called up to the Slovakian U19s.
Ashley Tiripke and Ellie Lambert will be joining us on loan from Huddersfield – we look forward to welcoming them into our club and seeing their contributions to what will be a competitive campaign.
Our backroom team have also been expanding with the addition of Colin Carruthers as Assistant Manager and Sam Jones joining our kitman Joe Winskill.
As the season begins on Sunday when we face Fleetwood Town Wrens, we look forward to be playing in front of such a passionate and supportive fanbase whether it’s at home in our stadium or away further afield.
