If you can run, walk or crawl, FC needs you all

Run, walk or crawl, all supporters are being called on to support the Medequip-FC United Minithon Run & Fun Day on Sunday, October 19th.

The main event of the day is the 5.8km fun run or crawl around Chorlton Water Park. The aim of this joint event is to raise both funds the club and for Medequip4kids. All entrants are being asked to get sponsored by their friends, workmates, employers, and their local landlords and landladies.

Half of the monies raised will go to club funds with the other half going to the Medequip charity, which provides hospital equipment for children.

The Minithon will then be followed by refreshments and relaxation at the nearby Chorlton Irish Club with live bands, music plus entertainment from our Juniors

The biggest news so far is that Margy and Dave Chadwick along with several other players will be on the run around the luxuriant park on the banks of the Mersey. And in a great show of leadership (or rather a three-line-whip from the organisers!) most of the FC Board members have also agreed to put on their running or walking boots. So get on board, and we hope that those supporters that can’t take part in the run will help others raise sponsorship.

For those who are participating there will be prizes not only for the fastest adult and junior runners but also for the best adult and junior fancy dress and the best banners.

If every supporter participates we can raise thousands of pounds for the club and also show that FC leads the way in contributing to the community.

General Manager Andy Walsh said:

"We’re all very excited by the day. When we talk about ’doing things differently’ as a club, this is exactly the type of thing we have in mind. Instead of reverting to ’traditional’ forms of income, this is the type of idea we try and to come up with to plug those gaps. But we don’t just stop there. We want the community to benefit as much as the club, so that’s why we’re delighted to have Medequip on board"??

Margy added:

"Leaving aside the fact I’ve somehow been roped into running 5 kilometres, it will be a fantastic day. I’ll be making sure plenty of the players are involved because as Andy says"¦we’re FC United and we do things differently"??

And finally, the club is also inviting its partners in the community to participate and they will be able to request to FC that half the money they raise be given to their own organisation and the rest to Medequip.

The event is very kindly sponsored by sportswear company A-Line, which is kindly providing vouchers for 7 full sets of soccer kit (including boots) to be used as prizes. Other prizes include preparing a pizza meal for you and three friends at Heathcotes’s Olive Press restaurant in Manchester, a matching leather wallet and handbag (for him and her - or him, or her) from Lichfield Leather, and a Dog Bed (for use after a night on the tiles or for Fido) from Restore Products.
