St Francis Church in Dudley houses a beautiful set of stained glass windows commemorating Duncan Edwards — a legendary footballer and one of Manchester’s finest. The windows are a unique and much-loved tribute to a player whose life and career were tragically cut short in the Munich Air Disaster.
Many FC United supporters have made the journey to Dudley to pay their respects and view the windows, which hold real significance for those who cherish football’s history and heritage.
Sadly, the church building has fallen into serious disrepair. Damp, mould and a leaking roof have meant that services can no longer be held there, and the windows themselves are now at risk.
The church has launched a fundraising campaign to try and save this important tribute. While FC United is not in a position to offer financial support, we are happy to help raise awareness of the campaign among our supporters, many of whom may wish to support efforts to preserve this piece of footballing heritage.
