Friendly: Maidenhead United v FC United, Saturday 26 July 2014
Thanks to generous sponsorship by Chauntry, one of FC United’s long-standing sponsors, the first of our summer friendlies has been confirmed, as a trip to Conference South club, Maidenhead United FC on Saturday 26 July 2014 . Maidenhead United go by the initials of MUFC, but trace their history even further back than the other MUFC. Their home ground, York Road, bears a blue plaque from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, proclaiming that it is “believed by the FA to be the oldest senior football ground continuously used by the same club. Maidenhead FC played their first game on this ground on 16th February 1871???.
Margy is very happy that we have secured this friendly, which will be a good standard of opposition and also gives the squad an ideal team-building trip. Ray Vaughan of Chauntry is keen that the fans should also have a great weekend at this Chauntry Challenge Cup Final and the winners of the game will be the inaugural holders of that trophy. The aim is to stir memories of cup final days in the south that so many of us have experienced before. In conjunction with Maidenhead United FC and Chauntry, we hope to plan some events around this game to make it a fantastic summer weekend trip for all concerned.
Further details will be announced in due course.
