FCUM Make It 4 Unbeaten Following 1-1 Draw With Marine

FC United played out a 1-1 draw with Marine, in a game that would come to be overshadowed by some very ‘interesting’ refereeing decisions on Saturday. This game, although it finished 1-1, was anything but a bore draw, with both sides coming close to taking maximum points on more than a handful of occasions.

It would be that man Regan Linney to open the scoring yet again for FC, as the Reds got the ball up the field with urgency. Gribbin did all of the hard work by committing the Marine ‘keeper, and squaring the ball to Linney, who had the goal at his mercy and made no mistake.

Marine would hit back on around the 33rd minute, as FC were put under near constant pressure at the back, and this press forced Reds ‘keeper Wyll Stanway into a hurried clearance. A poor clearance it was, and the ball fell to Mariners man Adams who made no mistake with a smart finish into the bottom left corner in front of the SMRE.

The game would become a real ding-dong after both sides got on the scoresheet, with neither side willing to over commit and potentially drop points. FC will have grounds to feel hard done by at the final whistle, as a collection of poor calls by the referee culminated in Jones receiving a red card in the 92nd minute for bringing down the last man and preventing an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

This game leaves the Red rebels unbeaten in four league games, and with three more home matches on the horizon, the calendar only seems to get busier. We welcome high flying South Shields to Broadhurst Park on Tuesday 4th October, in a 19.45 Kick Off.

After the game, FCUM Manager Neil Reynolds had this to say -

“I am happy with this performance. I knew Marine were a good side, I knew that they would try to cancel us out. I think the way we started the game was excellent, and we made a mistake at 1-1, and I don’t think either side did enough in the middle of the park to open up the opportunities.

“I think both sets of front runners were good, and I thought both defences were good too. It was an open game. We had plenty of chances, as did they did. Sometimes you just have to say ‘good game, one apiece, and we move on’”
