FCUM in disappointing FA Trophy defeat to Liversedge

FC United came back down to earth with a bump on their return to 3pm Saturday kick offs after the midweek thriller against South Shields, losing 1-0 to out of form Liversedge in the FA Trophy.

It would be Dearnley with the only goal for the away side, as he got the better of the FC back line in the 17th minute, as the ball was slotted off the post, past Dan Lavercombe who returned to the squad after injury in place of loan ‘keeper Wyll Stanway.

It was a game of few chances for both sides, as Liversedge have been out of sorts in the league of late, and this loss leaves FC still in search of their first home league win in a Saturday 3pm fixture this season.

FC would come close with their best chance of the afternoon in the 80th minute, with the Reds striking the bar off a corner, but the ball just wouldn’t drop into a favourable position.

Man of the Match - Jack Degruchy - In a game that lacked a spark, FC looked best when Degruchy was swinging balls into the box, and despite Reno’s men struggling to get meaningful attacking moves to stick, the intent from Jack was there for all to see.

Reno’s Comments -

“I’d first of all like to apologise to everyone that watched that today, all the fans on behalf of the squad, because we weren’t good enough.

“I’m not buying into the excuse that we were tired from Tuesday night. We just weren’t at it. From start to finish we were flat. We prepared exactly the same way but I’d say only Degruchy has come out of it with any plaudits.

“There wasn’t that zest, that spark. Training was really good on Thursday night, and the game was excellent (on Tuesday) so I’m just very disappointed that we’ve not been able to progress in the trophy.”

Next up - we’re back to league action as we conclude our stint of 4 consecutive home games, welcoming Morpeth to Broadhurst Park on Tuesday 11th October, in a 7.45pm Kick Off.
