Although we’ve lost our home fixture against Warrington Rylands on 7th December due to their progression in the FA Trophy, we are still putting on a great day of events at Broadhurst Park – and we need as many supporters as possible to come down and support the club.
We’ve already spoken about the importance of Saturday home matches to the club, and the situation we’ve been left in due to fixture scheduling this season.
However as a 100% fan-owned club, we know that we can rely on our supporters to get yourselves down to Broadhurst Park and generate some much-needed revenue for the club. The club shop will be open throughout the afternoon to allow supporters to buy Christmas gifts for the FC fan in their life (or to treat themselves!)
This year's Big Coat Day culminates on this way with our final day for donations to be dropped off at Broadhurst Park. Donations will be accepted at the metal cabin located outside the SMRE between 11:30am and 3:00pm - more info here.
The centrepiece of the day will be an open training session on the main pitch (2pm – 3.30pm – turnstiles open at 1.30pm). It’s a perfect opportunity for supporters to get up close with new manager Mark Beesley and his backroom team and get an insight on how they work with the players – including some of the exciting prospects from our Development Squad - and get them prepared for match days.
This will be followed by a Q&A session (3.30pm – 4.30pm) with Mark in the Function Room, where supporters will have the opportunity to ask any burning questions they’ve got for him and mingle with the players.
Before all of that, we will have the traditional FC Uth Christmas Party (11.30am to 1.30pm), with the FC United players helping Santa to distribute presents, along with plenty of other fun and games for the juniors.
Please note that the party is for current junior members only and places are limited. Please contact Chris Boulderstone (chris.boulderstone@fc-utd.uk) to secure a place.
After Mark’s Q&A, we’ll be hosting our “It’ll all be over by Christmas” Party in the Function Room (4.45pm – late). Despite the prediction of Alan Gowling back in 2005, we’re still here almost twenty years later, and it promises to be a great occasion for supporters to reminisce on another eventful year for the club.
The players will be sticking around after training, so it’ll be a great opportunity to have a drink and a chat with your favourite player (and maybe even get a selfie and an autograph!)
We'll be holding an FC raffle and auction packed full of perfect Christmas presents for yourself or an FC-mad loved one from 4:45pm with the musical fun to commence after!
The function room will be setup to host the biggest battle of the season, who does karaoke better - the SMRE or the Main Stand? Come along for a musical battle sure to go down in FC folklore with food will be available to purchased.
Both the Open Training Session and the Christmas Party will be free for supporters to attend, but we will be strongly encouraging supporters to make whatever donation they can on the day. Supporters who aren’t able to attend on the 7th but would like to show their support are encouraged to support the Missing Matches campaign;
The impact of postponements due to fixture scheduling has left us with just three home games in three months between late September and Christmas – a situation which would be an enormous blow for any non-league club. Any revenue we were counting on from the Gainsborough Trinity fixture in November now won’t be seen until mid-January, and whilst a new date is yet to be confirmed for our fixture against Warrington Rylands, we may well be looking at a similar situation.
The club belongs to all of us, and it’s up to all of us to make a success of things. We really need as many of you as possible to support our Christmas Celebration Day – so get yourselves to that football ground and let’s make it a day to remember!
