FC United Women v Tranmere Rovers: Venue Update

Sunday's Women's Team match will be played at Boothstown FC, Amberhill Way, M28 1YJ

We wanted to provide supporters with an update regarding this Sunday’s FC United Women fixture against Tranmere Rovers, including an important change of venue.

Following discussions with our grounds team and a review of the weather forecast for the coming days, the club has taken the decision to move the fixture away from Broadhurst Park.

The match will now be played at Boothstown FC (Amberhill Way, Boothstown, M28 1YJ).

As of last weekend, the Women’s Team did not have a fixture scheduled for this weekend. The club was informed by the league on Monday that this match had been arranged for Sunday (15th), which left a relatively short timeframe to prepare the game.

While we had hoped to stage the match at Broadhurst Park, the issues with the stadium pitch this season – particularly following the men’s first team fixture against Gainsborough Trinity F.C. last month – have been well documented.

Since then, our ground staff have worked extremely hard to repair the significant damage that was caused, putting in many hours of work in difficult winter conditions to give the pitch the best possible chance of recovering.

Although the pitch has improved, it remains vulnerable to further wet weather. With rain forecast over the next few days, the advice of our groundsman was that attempting to stage two matches at Broadhurst Park within a 24-hour period would carry a significant risk of a late postponement for the Women’s fixture.

Even if both matches were able to go ahead, it would likely cause further damage to the pitch and risk its availability for the remainder of the season.

We know many supporters enjoy seeing the Women’s Team play at Broadhurst Park, and we are disappointed that this match cannot take place there. However, we felt it was important to make an early decision that gives the best possible chance for the game to go ahead as planned rather than risk another late postponement.

The club remains fully committed to the continued growth and visibility of our Women’s Team, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Broadhurst Park as conditions allow later in the season.

By taking this decision now, we are also protecting the pitch as it continues to recover, helping to safeguard the remaining fixtures scheduled at Broadhurst Park during the run-in to the end of the season.

We thank supporters for their understanding and hope as many of you as possible will be able to support the team at Boothstown on Sunday.
