FC United Women are delighted to announce that we have been nominated for the Manchester FA Female Team of the Year award at the Manchester FA Grassroots Awards.
News of the nomination came less than 24 hours after the Reds retained the Argyle Cup, on Sunday, with a 3-2 win over Stockport County LFC to complete an illustrious treble.
FCUMW’s 2017/18 season has been nothing short of remarkable with the Argyle Cup becoming their third 11-a-side trophy in a matter of weeks having retained Manchester FA’s own Women’s Cup before going on to win the NWWRL Division 1 South title at Broadhurst Park, just over two weeks later.
The league title win also sees the Reds promoted to the Premier division of the North West Women’s Regional League for the 2018/19 season, a campaign in which the Women’s Team will make the iconic Broadhurst Park stadium their permanent home.
United have racked up some impressive figures this season scoring 175 goals across their 28 games in all competitions, conceding just 13 at the other end. That is with the exception of one league game yet to be played, at Northwich Vixens, which will go to a panel decision to decide the outcome, later this week.
Upon news of the nomination, manager Luke Podmore was delighted for his side. "I’m absolutely made up for this group being nominated for this award, they fully deserve it and it’s a testament to them that they have been recognised for their immaculate season."
"I am already so proud of them and it just gets even better with this nomination", Podmore added.
United will compete with AFC Manchester U12 Girls, Droylsden Juniors U12 Girls, Didsbury Ladies FC and Barr Hill Ladies for the award which will be presented at the annual awards ceremony on Friday 13th July at the Midland Hotel.
